Enhancing You Dog's Self Esteem

You know the type. A nervous anxious dog who seems fearful of just about anything – humans, other dogs, bicycles. Needless to say, a shy dog can be a problem for you, the pet parent. The type of behavior he exhibits and his complete lack of confidence will make it almost impossible for you to give him even the most basic training. Not to mention that a fearful dog is much more likely to show "behavioral" issues.

Confidence building itself can be a misunderstood term in the doggie context. Confidence is not an excuse to be a bully or cocky. Real confidence comes not from ego but from very real "power". The power to make correct decisions.

We help your mistreated or abused rescue dog gain back their self confidence at AAA Pet Resort. Call us today to learn more.

Ways to Help Your Kitty Beat the Heat

The hot weather can be very dangerous to our feline friends, however. Fluffy can’t cool herself off very effectively, and could get very sick if she overheats.
Raised Beds
A raised bed will stay cooler than a regular one, because air can flow beneath it. You can make your furball a kitty hammock in just a few minutes. You’ll need an end table or coffee table with four legs, and a piece of material. Cut the material so that it’s smaller than the top of the table. Then, just fasten the corners to the table legs. Voila!
Cool Treats
Who says kitties can’t enjoy a cool snack now and then? Try mixing tuna in water with low fat yogurt and a little parsley. Freeze it in small portions for your furball. You can also freeze sodium-free chicken broth in ice cube trays, and drop one or two into Fluffy’s water on hot days.
Automated Waterer
Make sure your furball always has plenty of fresh water! Consider getting Fluffy an automated waterer, or a kitty drinking fountain.
Brushing
Brushing your kitty will remove dead hair from her coat. This will help maximize the insulating qualities of her fur, and keep her cooler. Incorporate treats, praise, and cuddles, so Fluffy knows she’s being pampered.
Ice Game
On really hot days, give Fluffy an ice cube to play with. Because those cute little paw pads help your kitty regulate her temperature, this can also cool her off.
Air Conditioning
The best way to help Fluffy beat the heat is to keep her indoors, in rooms cooled by air conditioners or fans. This will not only keep your pet cool and comfortable, it will also keep her safer. Cats that go outdoors face many serious dangers, such as cars, predators, and other animals. If you let your furball roam freely throughout your home, she’ll naturally seek out the coolest spots. After all, if there’s one thing cats excel at, it’s getting comfortable!

About AAA Pet Resort

We created this kennel-free environment in the fall of 2004, knowing that dogs are social/pack animals and do not like to be isolated or locked up.

Lynda Seeber began looking after dogs by working at the RSPCA kennels (including quarantine and hospital) in Liverpool, England, where she was born and grew up. People were bringing injured, stray and sick animals to Lynda as far back as she can remember. After coming to the U.S. in 1971, she continued caring for strays and unwanted pets, including rescuing a distressed falcon, hawk and pelican. Lynda and her friend and trainer Roman Dizon (visit his web site at http://www.calerok9.com) are in the process of writing an educational self-help book on dog behavior and training.

Our staff are trained and are excellent with dogs.

There are 12 local vets who refer their patients to us who have suffered abuse or trauma in their past, also dogs who experience separation anxiety, etc., are referred to us. We have been very successful with this kind of therapeutic rehab by helping to wean dogs off of medications such as xanax, prozac, etc., enhancing the confidence and self-esteem of the mistreated dogs belonging to people who have rescued or adopted them.

If you wish to see the daily Youtube videos, call us at 941-744-1080 and we will email the link to you.

Frito Feet

‘Frito Feet’ is the name of the phenomenon in which the bacteria on a dog’s paws cause them to smell like corn chips. Because a pup’s feet are in constant contact with the ground, they pick up tons of microorganisms in their paws. When dogs cool off by sweating through the pads of their feet, the combo of moisture and bacteria releaces a nutty, popcorn-like aroma. Basically it’s dog B.O.
