Bradenton, Florida - At her home on Lena Road near I-75, Lynda Seeber operates the AAA Pet Resort. She charges $15 a day to watch dogs for people on vacation. And she lets the dogs roam loose in her yard. Lynda Seeber, Owns AAA Pet Resort: "If you go to a hotel, they don't lock you in your room, so why should the dogs be locked up?" So it's no surprise this compassionate woman has been touched by the turmoil in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Lynda Seeber: "You just have to do something. You can't sleep at night unless you try to do something." So Seeber is opening her home to Hurricane victims. She has three spare bedrooms. Lynda Seeber: "If everybody offered one room or even a couch for somebody to sleep on, you could accommodate all of those people." Seeber has posted her offer through CraigsList.com on Moveon.org’s Hurricane Housing web page. Seeber is also offering two acres behind her home for tents or trailers temporarily, for people who need to get out of Louisiana and Mississippi. Seeber says she's returning the favor, since strangers helped her when she first came to the United States from Great Britain 30 years ago. Lynda Seeber: "I came here with $90, two children, and no return ticket. No job, no home. People just carried me." And now Seeber is willing to carry others at her home, where dogs and llamas roam.
